A tragic fire in Mpala Cell, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District, claimed the lives of three young girls in the early hours of 15th August 2025. The victims, Namiru Ellah, 12, Amani Namulema, 5, and Namujju Tamale, 3, lost their lives while at home.

Preliminary reports suggest the children were left unattended by their mother, Nalubwama Julie, while their father, Kavuma Lenon, was away in Jinja for work. The fire broke out around 1:00 am and was first reported to police by the local LC1 Chairperson. Firefighters responded quickly and managed to put out the blaze, but tragically, the girls did not survive.

Two of the girls’ bodies were recovered outside the burnt house, while the third was found inside, badly burnt and unrecognizable. Police documented the scene and collected witness statements as part of the ongoing investigation. The bodies were taken to the City Mortuary for postmortem examinations while authorities work to determine the exact cause of the fire.

The incident has left the local community in deep shock and mourning. Investigators continue to probe how the fire started and why the children were left alone during the night.

This heartbreaking event underscores the critical importance of child safety and vigilance, especially during nighttime hours, as residents are urged to take every precaution to protect young children and prevent similar tragedies.
