From August 11th, 2025, anyone who wants to run for President of Uganda can start collecting nomination forms from the Electoral Commission headquarters on 7th Street, Industrial Area. This marks the first official step for anyone hoping to lead the country. To qualify, each presidential aspirant must gather signatures from at least 100 supporters in two-thirds of Uganda’s districts—meaning a minimum of 100 registered voters from 98 districts nationwide. These supporter forms will be available until August 24th, and candidates must travel across the country to collect the necessary endorsements.
In addition to the supporter forms, presidential hopefuls are required to fill in official nomination forms with their personal details. They must also read and understand the nomination guidelines to ensure they meet every legal requirement before submission.
For those aiming to run for Member of Parliament (MP), including representatives of special interest groups, the process is slightly different. MP nomination forms can be downloaded directly from the Electoral Commission’s website, www.ec.org.ug. Candidates for district and city chairperson positions can also download their forms and guidelines from the same site. However, local government councillors at sub-county level will need to collect their nomination forms and guidelines from their respective district Electoral Commission offices.
The nomination period for Members of Parliament has been rescheduled to October 15th and 16th, giving candidates extra time to prepare. Other key nomination dates and details were announced last week and can be found on the Commission’s website.
This announcement signals a major step in Uganda’s 2025 electoral journey. Across the country, aspiring leaders now have the chance to begin their campaigns. Whether you are planning to run for President, MP, or local government office, now is the time to prepare, follow the guidelines, and take the first steps toward making your voice—and your leadership—count in the upcoming elections.
