There was late-night chaos in Munyonyo after Ugandan musician Douglas Mayanja, popularly known as Weasel, was reportedly struck by a car allegedly driven by his partner, Sandra Teta. The incident occurred just after midnight outside Shan’s Bar, following what witnesses described as a heated argument between the couple.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, Sandra Teta is currently detained at Kabalagala Police Station on charges of unlawful wounding. She is accused of intentionally hitting Weasel with a motor vehicle bearing registration number UBH 148Y. Police have since impounded the car as part of ongoing investigations.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud exchange between the two before the situation spiraled. Moments later, Weasel was allegedly run over, leaving him seriously injured. He was initially taken to Mukwaya Hospital for emergency care and later referred to Nsambya Hospital, where he remains hospitalized and under medical supervision.
Authorities are still investigating the events leading up to the incident, working to determine whether the act was premeditated. The police have called for calm from the public as they continue to gather facts and review evidence.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed Sandra Teta’s arrest and assured the public that more information will be released as the case develops.
