Announcement!! Special Group Nominations Close Today Across The Country

Today, June 10, 2025, is the final day for nominating candidates for the special interest group village committee elections in Uganda. These elections are set to choose leaders for three key groups in society: the youth, older persons, and persons with disabilities. The nomination exercise began on June 2 and is officially closing today.

Julius Mucunguzi, the spokesperson for the Electoral Commission, reminded Ugandans how important this moment is. He urged those who are eligible to take part and offer themselves for leadership. “Today is the last day for nomination of all those who want to contest, participate, and offer themselves to lead,” he said.

Nomination centers are open at sub-county headquarters, division wards, and town councils across the country. These centers are operating from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to make sure everyone has a chance to participate.

To qualify, candidates in the youth category must be between 18 and 30 years old. Older persons must be 60 years or older. Persons with disabilities must meet specific requirements laid out by the law. These rules ensure that the leaders elected truly represent their groups.

Mucunguzi emphasized the value of civic involvement, saying, “Your vote is your voice.” These special group elections are not only important on their own, but they also kick-start Uganda’s 2025–2026 general election process.

Once nominations end, campaigning will take place from June 12 to June 14. Elections will follow: older persons will vote on June 16, persons with disabilities on June 17, and the youth on June 19.

These elections are a big opportunity for people to choose leaders who understand their challenges and dreams. It’s a chance for everyone—young people, the elderly, and those with disabilities—to step up, get involved, and help shape the future of their communities.
