The time has come for eligible members of the Youth, Older Persons, and Persons with Disabilities groups to step forward and take part in a key democratic exercise. From 2nd to 10th June 2025, the nomination of candidates for the Village Special Interest Groups (SIGs) Committees will be happening across the country. This is an important part of the SIGs Roadmap for the 2025/2026 General Elections, and everyone who qualifies is encouraged to get involved.
These committees play a big role in representing the voices of special interest groups at the village level. They help ensure that the needs, rights, and interests of their members are heard and addressed in local and national matters. That’s why it’s important for the right people—passionate, responsible, and committed individuals—to step up and serve.
If you’re part of the Youth group, an Older Person, or a Person with a Disability, this is your opportunity to make a difference. Whether you want to nominate someone you believe in or be nominated yourself, your participation is a powerful way to shape your community’s future.
To guide you through the process, nomination guidelines and forms can be downloaded from the Electoral Commission’s website at ec.or.ug. Everything you need to know from who can be nominated, to how and where to submit forms is clearly explained there.
Let’s make sure every voice counts. Get informed, get involved, and take part in this important step towards inclusive and fair leadership.
