The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has released an important notice for all travelers using Entebbe International Airport between May 19 and May 29, 2025. This period marks a busy travel season as hundreds of Ugandan pilgrims prepare to travel to Mecca for the annual Islamic pilgrimage, known as Hijja or Hajj.
UCAA has warned that due to the large number of pilgrims and the many family members, friends, and well-wishers who often come to see them off, there is likely to be heavy traffic congestion around the airport. This can make it harder for other passengers to arrive on time for their flights.
All passengers scheduled to depart during this time are strongly advised to plan ahead and arrive early. The Authority reminds travelers to be at the airport at least three hours before their scheduled departure, especially because most international airlines close check-in one hour before take-off. Delays caused by traffic could easily lead to missed flights if travelers don’t prepare in advance.
To help manage the crowds, UCAA has set aside a special area in the airport car park for pilgrims. This is where they will gather and be taken through the final travel arrangements before they board their flights.
Only vehicles with official access stickers will be allowed into the main airport car park to reduce traffic pressure. All other well-wishers and accompanying family members will be guided to a designated holding area nearby. This system is designed to maintain order and ensure that all travelers — not just pilgrims — have a smooth and stress-free experience at the airport.
UCAA has asked the public for cooperation and patience during this time. “We appreciate your understanding and support as we work together to ensure safe and efficient travel for everyone,” said the Authority.
Whether you’re heading for a spiritual journey to Mecca or flying out for business or leisure, the message is clear — plan ahead, arrive early, and expect crowds.
