Uganda Mourns Hon. Sarah Mateke: Tributes and Calls for Project Completion.

In a heartfelt special sitting, Uganda bid farewell to Hon. Sarah Mateke, honoring her significant contributions and addressing the need to complete her unfinished projects. The event brought together prominent leaders, including Speaker Anitah Among and Prime Minister  Robinah Nabbanja, who highlighted Mateke’s enduring legacy and the challenges ahead.

Call for Unity and Completion of Projects

Speaker Anitah Among urged unity and compassion in light of Mateke’s passing. “We are living on borrowed time; at any moment, God might say, ‘Give it back to me,’” she said. Among emphasized the importance of resolving conflicts and supporting one another. She also called on the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance to allocate necessary funds for the completion of Mateke’s projects, including the Kanyamatekye Bridge, the rehabilitation of Buhoozi Health Centre II, and the construction of a men’s ward at Nyarusiza Health Centre III.

Tributes to a Life of Service

Prime Minister Nabbanja praised Mateke’s extensive contributions to Uganda, noting her role in founding the Nyirabashitsi Foundation and her advocacy for youth education and women’s empowerment. Nabbanja highlighted Mateke’s significant impact on community development and the integration of women and youth into Uganda’s development agenda.

Addressing Health Challenges

Nabbanja also touched on the broader issue of non-communicable diseases, which have increasingly threatened public health and deprived the country of transformative leaders like Mateke. The Prime Minister underscored the urgent need for ongoing focus and resources to address these health challenges.

The special sitting reflected on Mateke’s dedication to improving the lives of Ugandans and her commitment to social development. As the nation mourns, her legacy continues to inspire efforts towards a more equitable and empowered society.

  • The body will be transported to Nyakabingo, Kisoro District at 9:00 am
  • Council Session at 2.00pm. to pay tribute to the late
  • Church Service at 4:00pm
  • Overnight vigil.

 

THURSDAY, 12 September ,2024

  • Church service at Nyakabingo
  • Burial
