Set aside your Political differences and embrace Government programs; Namayanja tells the Youth.

As a way of uplifting their communities from poverty, the Deputy Secretary General of NRM Rt. Hon. Rose Namayanja Nsereko has called upon the youth to embrace government programs such as Parish Development Model and Emyooga among others.

She made the call yesterday while addressing a group of over 400 youth leaders at Bukakala Village, Semuto,Sub-county in Nakaseke District. She urged them to set a side their Political differences and actively participate in the different government programs that have income generating projects with the potential to elevate them from poverty.

“Regardless of Political affiliation or differences, these programs are designed to empower you. Use them to combat poverty and drive the change you wish to see in your communities,”she said.

30% of the funds from programs such as Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga are specifically allocated to the young people. Namayanja encouraged the youth to develop innovative ideas re-affirming government ‘s commitment to produce the necessary resources and expertise needed to facilitate and launch small business enterprises.

The youth leaders echoed concern over extortion, bribery and un authorized fees imposed on beneficiaries.

In response, the RDC Nakaseke District, Rosemary Byabashaija warned culprits against such. “I want to assure you that as government we take the issue of extortion of PDM funds very seriously. We have already made arrests and thorough investigations will carried out to ensure that those responsible are brought to book,” she said.

Nicholas Brian, a youth leader from Wakyato Parish appealed to his peers to embrace these initiatives. “Our future lies in our own hands and our proactive active engagement in national initiatives,” he said.

Through Presidential initiatives on wealth and job creation, such as Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, Government aims to transform 68% of homestead from subsistence to market oriented production with the overall objective of promoting job creation and improving household incomes.
