His Highness the Kyabazinga of Busoga, Gabula Nadiope IV, announced plans to secure land titles for Kagulu Rock to boost tourism. He aims to work with authorities to expedite the titling process, following concerns from 1st Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga over delayed investments at the site.
The Kagulu Rock Climbing Challenge, started in 2015, is a key event to promote Busoga as a tourist destination. President Museveni has supported the site’s development, directing the Ministry of Tourism to improve infrastructure. Plans for the site include a museum, cable cars, and other facilities. Local leaders are working to demarcate the land to avoid disputes.
In the same lane, The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, in partnership with Busoga region District Local Governments and other stakeholders, is organising the eighth Land Awareness Week in 10 districts of Busoga under the theme “Promoting land rights and land use for inclusiveness and sustainable development.” The event, led by State Minister for Lands Sam Mayanja, will involve critical government agencies like the National Forestry Authority and Uganda Wildlife Authority.
The initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of local communities, including vulnerable groups, and relevant organisations in land governance and environmental conservation. Activities will include community dialogues, mobile legal clinics, media engagements, and tree planting. The event will also provide a platform to inform policy reviews on land-related issues. The organisers aim to reach at least 500 people per district, offering legal advice and promoting environmental conservation.
