The Uganda National Roads Authority, following their mission, which is to efficiently develop and maintain a safe and sustainable national road network for the economic development of Uganda, recently released a 3D design outlook of the 23 km road on their social media platforms.
The road will stretch from Kyaliwajjara Trading Centre via Kira and Kasangati, and then proceed to Matugga.
In the contract signed between the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) and Chongqing International Construction Corporation (CICO), the road was initially expected to be completed by January 2024. However, this deadline was not met, and the completion date has been postponed to a later time, which will be communicated.
“The estimated road is aimed at reducing traffic jams, particularly around Najjeera—Buwaate Spur, a 5 km stretch that has already seen significant progress with the laying of tarmac,” UNRA stated.
The road will feature well-demarcated driving lanes, allowing for two-way traffic from Kyaliwajjara to Kira and a single driving lane from Kira via Kasangati up to Matugga. To prevent accidents, pedestrian walkways and cycling lanes will be established on both sides of the road, and a green belt will be maintained in the road reserve to accommodate future expansion.
UNRA continues to request that all drivers using the route stay calm, as construction is still ongoing.
