UCAA to conduct Search and Rescue Service workshops allover Uganda.

Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) in partnership with the Ministry of Works and Transport has expanded the Search and Rescue services to reach the inhabitants of Islands through workshops conducted on July 5, 2024. The primary aim was to raise awareness among local leaders about the importance of this initiative.

During the Search and Rescue service workshops held in Buvuma Island, Busia, and Mukono district, the participants were educated on the preparedness and rescue techniques required in the event of air or water accidents.
The workshops were inaugurated by the district Commissioners and received wholehearted support, recognizing this as a mandated responsibility under the Chicago Convention of 1944, to which Uganda is a signatory.

Various stakeholders involved in this initiative include local government bodies, Uganda Police, Uganda People’s Defence Forces, Red Cross, medical facilities, educational institutions, fisheries, among others.

UCAA has pledged to conduct similar workshops regularly across different districts in Uganda to educate masses on the utilization of resources available during rescue operations and to establish a network with local authorities in the event of an emergency.
