His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has created the State House Revenue Intelligence and Strategy Operations Unit to oversee the operations of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA).
Earlier this year, several URA employees were detained on charges of corruption. Among the accused were Caroline Naggoli and Benedict, who were alleged to have solicited a bribe of 800 million from Tony Jiao. Additionally, Francis Wondero was detained on corruption charges, and his case is scheduled to be heard on July 3, 2024.
The establishment of this Unit aims to fight corruption within the tax administration system and assist the government in addressing revenue losses and boost tax collection. Mr. David Kalema has been appointed by the president to lead this Unit, along with serving as a senior presidential advisor.
