Busoga kingdom premier and National Planning Executive Director Joseph Muvawala has rushed to his home area in Busoga to calm down angry and rowdy youths.

Disgruntled youths in Jinja yesterday upset the areas of Namulesa, Kivubuka, Mafubira and Wakalenge in early morning protests against the rising cost of living. Transport was paralysed, shops remained closed for hours as youths lit bonfires to prevent business. Schools remained closed as children couldnt leave their homes.

Police in Jinja is holding atleast 61 youths over the protests that engaged them in running battles for the better half of the day.

Dr. Joseph Muvawala is set to address the region this evening in a much publicised talk show on Baba 87.7 FM that will be linked with other media. Muvawala enjoys the unifying stature in the region as a cultural leader but also as the NPA chief whose National Planning would be the therapy to the country’s economic troubles today.

Muvawala told #Sml news on the sidelines of the NPA meeting at Hotel Africana that he couldnt remain sitted as Criminal gangs armed with sticks and Pangas planned mayhem in Jinja. Security organs reportedly spent the day in meetings aimed at checking the protests that could be a recipe for disaster.
