MWANYI TERIMBA Limited: Mengo Introduces own Company to buy Coffee from Farmers.

Buganda Kingdom administration at Mengo has written to all Ssaza chiefs in the kingdom asking them to mobilize coffee farmers to deliver their coffee to a new company.
The move intends to protect small holder coffee farmers from exploitative prices by middlemen. This could be a plan to reclaim the kingdom’s market share in the coffee industry.

Mengo’s Deputy Minister for Local Governments Joseph Kawuki in a July 5 letter to all Ssaza Chiefs and their Deputies said the kingdom had registered MWANYI TERIMBA Limited (MTL) company. The company started buying coffee from farmers in June 2022.

Kawuki adds that MTL has acquired huge stores at Namanve Industrial Park. In addition the company was ready to buy as much quantities as the farmers can avail. The company will also purchase in cash.
He also introduces Prince Charles Kironde (on 0700389412) as its Managing Director.
This is a major milestone in reclaiming Buganda’s market share from a crop that is as old as the kingdom itself. The company is likely to increase competition among coffee buyers and could push coffee prices high on the market.
Mengo could also become the second largest single coffee producing block organized on institutional level after Bugisu Cooperative Union. Bugisu Cooperative Union led by FDC Secretary General Nandala Mafabi.
It is a great addition on the achievements list of the kingdom Premier Charles Peter Mayiga who has up on his sleeves delivered the renovation of Kasubi Tombs, BBS Television and Masengere through his Ettofaali mobilization drive.

Mayiga, one of the key critics of the controversial VINCI coffee investment agreement. That Finance Minister Matia Kasaija and his Permanent Secretary Ramathan Ggoobi signed with Italian national Pinette.
Mayiga’s critics accuse him of choosing compliance against defiance with President Museveni’s government. And is seen to have dislodged opposition cliques from Bulange – Mengo. His compliance and none – antagonistic approach has improved Mengo’s relations with the central government and delivered tangible results.
Will the Mwanyi Terimba Limited Company deliver coffee farmers from the misery of low prices and exploitation from middlemen?
