There’s growing panic in the leading opposition party the National Unity Platform over the latest links to the gruesome murders by machete-wielding men in Greater Masaka Region.
Police yesterday summoned the Party’s Allan Ssewanyana(Makindye West MP ) and popular Mohammad ssegirinya (Kawempe North Mp) for questioning in relation to the spate of attacks.
The duo is expected at Masaka Police on September 6 at 10am according to a statement from the Criminal Investigations Department in Kibuli.
NUP supremo Robert Kyagulanyi ssentamu said in a statement that the summons are a latest attempt by the state to find reason to smear the party and cause it unnecessary hatred among the population. He quickly added that the same will fail.
Earlier today the Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga called on security organs to act professionally in handling the Investigations involving NUP MPs.
He warned government not to use the Masaka attacks to settle political scores following their embarrassing defeat in the January 14 general election.
Inside NUP, the panic is felt as many wonder how Kampala MPs could be linked to murders in Masaka. There were social media blogs alleging that preliminary police Investigations had revealed that the MPs were bankrolling the killings with a Ugx 100k per head killed with an aim of causing fear in the population and denting government’s already fragile image.
This website will update you as the story develops. Security is already tight in Masaka as security struggles to get to the root canal of the latest primitive attacks that have left 28 people killed in two months. Will security defeat the latest security threat that has put the country on tenterhooks?
