One person has been confirmed dead and three others seriously injured following a landslide that hit Bunarutere Village in Bubyangu Parish Bubyangu Sub-County in the wee hours of Monday night.
Ayub Twaha the Uganda Red Cross branch manager for Mbale identifies the deceased as 6 year old Hussein Walumu whose parents and grand parent were left serious injured by the landslide.
According to the Red Cross, the injured have been evacuated with multiple injuries and taken to hospital.
Irene Nakasiita the Uganda Red Cross spokesperson says their team in Mbale is on the ground to render all the necessary assistance at the moment.
“There are a number of cracks that are still visible and our teams have been moving in communities giving early warning messages and sensitization so this will continue because as the land develops more cracks its likely that more landslides will happen which is so dangerous to the people” said Nakasiita.
The tragedy comes barely a month after another landslide hit Busaano subcounty in Mbale district leaving one person dead and hundreds others displaced.
