A total of 23 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Uganda raising the tally to 198.
According to the ministry of health, the new cases confirmed yesterday include 19 truck drivers who arrived via Elegu and Busia while 4 cases are contacts to previously confirmed truck drivers
“All contacts were under quarantine at the time of test” the ministry said in an official statement posted on their website.
38 positive foreign truck drivers have been handed over to their country of origin the statement adds.
This is in line with the recent presidential directive that only truck drivers who test negative for the disease are allowed into the country, health minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng says
Out of the 1,187 total samples tested on 23rd May 2020, 851 samples were from points of Entry while community samples and contacts were 336.
Uganda has so far registered 68 Covid-19 recoveries and no one has died from the respiratory disease according to the ministry.
