A terrible road accident happened on the evening of May 5, 2025, in Makindu Village, Buikwe District. Many people died, and several others were wounded. The crash happened around 5:00 PM on the Kisoga–Nyenga Road. A Scania bus with the number plate UAV 701C, owned by YY Company, was involved.
Police say the bus was traveling from Katosi to Jinja when the driver lost control near Makindu Village. The bus flipped over and caught fire. The fire spread quickly, and many people could not get out in time.
Police and rescue teams arrived quickly and tried to stop the fire. Sadly, some people died in the fire. Officials are still trying to identify the bodies.
People who survived but got injured were taken to hospitals nearby, such as Kawolo Hospital and St. Francis Lwanga Hospital. Others were taken to smaller health centers. The exact number of injured people is not known yet, but some are badly hurt while others have minor injuries.
Police spokesperson SP Kananura Michael said the crash is being investigated. More information will be shared later.
Right now, police are checking if the crash was caused by speeding or a problem with the bus. The accident has made the local people very sad and shocked.
This tragedy shows how important road safety and taking care of vehicles really is. Families are in mourning, and the community is deeply affected.
