Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has demanded a public apology from the U.S. Ambassador to Uganda by Monday morning, accusing him of undiplomatic conduct. In a statement posted on X, Muhoozi warned that failure to apologize to President Museveni would lead to calls for the ambassador’s removal.
“If this current U.S. Ambassador does not apologize to Mzee personally by Monday morning (9:00 AM) for his undiplomatic behavior, we will demand he leaves Uganda,” Muhoozi declared. He expressed concerns about recent U.S. actions, stating that while Uganda admires the U.S., there is evidence of interference in the country’s affairs.
This follows U.S. sanctions on four senior Ugandan security officials over alleged human rights violations, further straining relations between the two countries. As of now, the U.S. Embassy has not officially responded to Muhoozi’s ultimatum.
