Government has cleared Nyege Nyege Festival to take place but under adherence to strict guidelines.
This follows a Meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja with the Nyege Nyege organizers and other stakeholders.
The meeting was attended by the 3rd Deputy PM, Minister for General duties,ICT and national guidance Minister, Minister for Kampala, Kampala state Minister, ethics state Minister,Gender State Minister, representatives from Internal affairs, foreign affairs, Police among others.
On Tuesday, August 6, Parliament, had stopped the ‘Nyege Nyege’ festival, an annual social event scheduled to take place next week in Jinja city, over claims of immorality.
However, after serious discussions about the festival , they (Prime Minister, selected Ministers, organizers and Police), unonymously okayed the event to be conducted under stringent measures due to its economic benefits and international relations.
According to the CEO Talent Africa Ally Allibhai the festival lead organiser, over 700m shs has been injected in preparations that started in January 2022.
He says an estimated 20,000 revelers from allover the world are expected to participate in the nyege Nyege festival aimed at celebrating the beauty of the Ugandan culture and promote tourism.
