Knife-wielding man storms Ggaba daycare center, kills four toddlers- police.

A horrific attack at a daycare center in the upscale suburb of Ggaba has left four toddlers dead and a community in deep mourning. The suspect, identified by police as 34-year-old Christopher Okello Anyu is currently in custody following a violent incident at the Ggaba Early Childhood Day Care.

Chronology of the Attack

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, the suspect had reportedly visited the facility two days prior, claiming he wanted to enroll his child.

The Entry: On Thursday, April 2, 2026, Anyu returned to the school and engaged the administrator, allegedly paying admission fees to further his disguise as a parent.

The Violence: After leaving the office, he reportedly locked the school gate and entered a classroom containing 14 children. He then used a sharp object—described by witnesses as a machete or knives to attack the children.

The Victims: Four children, aged between one-and-a-half and two-and-a-half years, were killed instantly. They have been identified as Ryan Odeke,Gideon Eteko,Keisha Elungat ,Ignatius Sseruyange.

Community and Police Response

The attack was reportedly halted by a security guard from a neighboring church who intervened. As news spread, an “irate mob” gathered at the scene, attempting to lynch the suspect. Police were forced to fire warning shots into the air to disperse the crowd and safely transport Anyu to Kabalagala Police Station.

Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba has visited the scene to oversee the investigation, while forensic teams have cordoned off the area to collect evidence.

Impact and Next Steps

Surviving Children: The 10 other children present in the classroom during the attack were unharmed and have been reunited with their families.

Investigation: Police are working to establish a motive, as there is currently no known link between the suspect and the victims or the school.

Safety Concerns: Community leaders in Ggaba have called for immediate increases in security at all childcare and educational facilities to prevent similar tragedies.
