Turning Point!! NUP Legal Team Prepares to Challenge Political Detention

The legal team representing the National Unity Platform (NUP), headed by Counsel Sam Muyizi, has confirmed that four detained party members—Eddy Mutwe, Gaddafi, A. Kivumbi, and Wakabi Smart—are scheduled to appear in court on the 14th of this month for a crucial bail hearing. Currently held at Masaka Prison, the group has spent months in detention under charges widely regarded as politically motivated.

This upcoming court appearance brings renewed hope to many Ugandans and international observers advocating for justice, human rights, and the rule of law. For months, human rights defenders and political activists have condemned the continued imprisonment of these individuals, claiming the charges are intended to silence dissenting voices and weaken the opposition.

The NUP legal team is preparing to present a compelling case for the release of the four detainees. Their supporters believe this hearing marks a pivotal moment in the broader struggle for democratic freedoms in Uganda.

Led by Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, the National Unity Platform continues to rally public and international support, calling for an end to political persecution. The party has remained vocal and resilient in its demand for justice, urging the courts to act independently and fairly.

As the hearing date draws near, anticipation grows among Ugandans and democracy advocates worldwide. This legal battle is more than just a bail application—it is a test of the judiciary’s independence and a symbol of ongoing resistance against authoritarianism.

Despite the challenges, the NUP maintains a clear and unwavering message: the fight for freedom, dignity, and justice will not be silenced.
