FDC president Patrick Oboi Amuriat has strongly criticised Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, and his party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), accusing them of taking advantage of Uganda’s elderly people for political reasons.
In a message shared on FDC’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, Amuriat said NUP was using “cheap politics” similar to the ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM). He claimed both NUP and NRM were fooling elderly citizens with fake promises and tricks, calling it a shameful way to gain political support.
Amuriat directly addressed Bobi Wine, NUP, and party Secretary General David Rubongoya, saying, “This is a mockery of our old people. Play better politics. Like Museveni and NRM, you use false agreements and play mind games on our desperate elders. Cheap politics just.”
This criticism follows NUP’s recent tour in eastern Uganda on May 27, 2025, where party leaders met with elderly residents and gave them support. While NRM has a long history of supporting elderly communities especially around election time Amuriat now believes NUP is copying the same tactic to win votes ahead of the 2026 elections.
This isn’t the first time Amuriat has spoken out against Bobi Wine. Back in 2021, he also accused him of using self-centred and ineffective campaign methods.
With elections drawing closer, the fight among opposition leaders and the strategies they choose will continue to shape Uganda’s political landscape. Whether these tactics truly help citizens or just serve political interests remains a major topic of debate.
