Police Conduct Intelligence-led Operations Across Kampala Metropolitan Area, Arrests Over 100

The Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested close to 100 individuals during a sweeping two-day operation targeting crime and drug abuse across several city areas. The crackdown, conducted on June 11 and 12, 2025, focused on high-risk zones in Kira Division (Wakiso District), Central Kampala, and Mukono District. It was a coordinated effort led by the Uganda Police Force, supported by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Crime Intelligence Units, and local leaders.

On June 11, security personnel launched operations in the Kira Division neighborhoods of Najjera, Bulindo, and Shimon. Known for being hotspots of drug activity and petty crime, these areas were combed through, and 30 suspects were apprehended. Many are believed to be involved in offenses such as house break-ins and robberies. Police seized quantities of opium and marijuana from these locations. All suspects are being held at Kira Police Station as investigations continue and charges are prepared.

That same night, police carried out a major operation in Central Kampala, concentrating on areas known for street crime, including William Street, Wilson Road, Top Pub, Nakasero, the Old Taxi Park, Cooper Complex, and Shoprite. Officers arrested 60 adult males suspected of drug use and involvement in theft, particularly phone and bag snatching. These suspects are currently in custody at the Central Police Station in Kampala as legal proceedings move forward.

On June 12, a joint security team launched another operation in Kiwala Village, Nama Sub-County, Mukono District. Conducted in the early hours of the morning, the raid targeted known criminal hideouts and resulted in the arrest of nine suspects. Police recovered opium at the scene and believe the individuals are linked to a series of local robberies. The suspects are being held at Mukono Police Station and are expected to face court soon.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police say these efforts are part of a broader strategy to tackle urban crime and improve public safety. Authorities emphasized their commitment to continued collaboration with local communities and the use of intelligence-led policing to disrupt criminal networks.

Deputy Police Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire encouraged residents to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activities to nearby police stations, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in maintaining security.

These latest operations reflect a renewed determination by law enforcement to restore safety and order in Kampala and surrounding districts. With sustained public support and multi-agency coordination, authorities say the fight against crime is steadily advancing.
