JUST IN!! Elias Nalukoola Loses MP Seat After Court Nullifies His Election

The High Court in Kampala has delivered a major political shake-up by nullifying the election of Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi as the Member of Parliament for Kawempe North. The court’s ruling followed a successful petition filed by Faridah Nambi Kigongo of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Faridah Nambi challenged the results of the recent elections, accusing Nalukoola of benefiting from widespread irregularities that compromised the integrity of the vote. After carefully reviewing the evidence, the court ruled in her favor, stating that the election did not meet the standards of a free and fair process.

As a result, the court has ordered a by-election to be held, marking the end of Nalukoola’s time in Parliament—at least for now. The decision has stirred mixed reactions across Kawempe North, with Nambi’s supporters celebrating what they see as a victory for justice and electoral transparency.

Nalukoola and his legal team have expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling and may explore options to appeal the judgment. However, unless overturned, the by-election will proceed as directed.

The Electoral Commission is now expected to release the official timetable for the by-election. Political parties are already bracing for a fresh contest, with the race for Kawempe North MP likely to be highly competitive and closely watched.

This ruling sends a clear message that election disputes, when supported by strong evidence, can lead to serious consequences. It reinforces the need for electoral integrity and reminds both voters and candidates that democracy must be protected at all levels.
