Entebbe International Airport has witnessed a significant surge in international passenger traffic, with a total of 183,728 passengers recorded in October 2024. This represents a notable increase from the 5,545 passengers handled per day in October 2023, with an average of 5,926 passengers per day in October 2024.
Several factors could have contributed to this increase. One possible reason is the growing tourism industry in Uganda, with visitors attracted to the country’s stunning natural beauty, wildlife, and cultural heritage. Additionally, the airport’s ongoing expansion and modernization efforts, funded by the government of South Korea and the People’s Republic of China, may have improved its capacity to handle more passengers.
The airport’s strategic location on the shores of Lake Victoria, serving as a hub for regional and international flights, could also be a contributing factor. Furthermore, the increased trade and business activities in the region, facilitated by the airport’s cargo handling services, may have attracted more passengers.
In terms of cargo, the airport facilitated a total of 5,825 metric tons of cargo in October 2024, comprising 1,798 metric tons of imports and 4,027 metric tons of exports. This growth in cargo handling could be attributed to the airport’s expanded cargo facilities and the growing demand for air freight services in the region.
Overall, the increase in passenger traffic at Entebbe International Airport is a positive indicator of Uganda’s growing economy and tourism industry. As the airport continues to expand and modernize, it is likely to play an increasingly important role in facilitating regional and international trade and travel.
