The Uganda Bureau of Statistics is all set to release the National Population and Housing Census (NPHC) 2024 results tomorrow, as confirmed by Didacus Okoth, UBOS Public Relations Officer. This highly anticipated release follows the successful conduct of Uganda’s 6th post-independence digital census, which involved 135,230 field staff collecting data using electronic devices. The preliminary results have already revealed that Uganda’s population stands at 45.9 million persons.

Previous Census Highlights

To put this into perspective, let’s take a look at Uganda’s previous census results:

  • 2014 Census: The population stood at approximately 34.6 million persons, with the census conducted in August and September.
  • 2002 Census: The population was around 24.2 million persons, with the census covering all persons resident in Uganda on the Census Night.
  • 1991 Census: This census was conducted during a time of insecurity and economic hardship, but still managed to provide valuable insights into Uganda’s population.
  • 1980 and 1969 Censuses: These earlier censuses laid the groundwork for Uganda’s population tracking and planning efforts.

The NPHC 2024 results will be crucial in informing policy decisions, resource allocation, and development initiatives across the country.
