The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has stepped up its efforts to ensure widespread adoption and understanding of its Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing System (EFRIS). Since its introduction, URA has employed a multifaceted approach to reach a broad audience, conducting over 261 workshops nationwide, engaging directly with over 15,023 traders, and utilizing digital platforms to provide instructional content.
URA spokesperson Ibrahim Bbossa emphasized the progress made, stating, “But it is still a journey, and we will soldier on.” The URA Tax Education Division has been working tirelessly to make EFRIS accessible and comprehensible to all taxpayers.
Key initiatives include:
- Workshops and training sessions targeting various business sectors
- Door-to-door sensitization campaigns in high-traffic business areas
- Digital platforms providing instructional content, including step-by-step guides and webinars
- Language accessibility, with EFRIS materials translated into 13 local languages
- Media outreach, including 107 media shows, 12 tax barazas, and 22 webinars
- Distribution of tax information packs to simplify the EFRIS adoption process
The URA’s persistent efforts demonstrate a commitment to educating businesses and providing continuous support through tax clinics and dedicated service centers. Despite significant strides made, the journey towards full EFRIS adoption continues, with URA steadfast in its mission to enhance tax education and compliance throughout the country.
