Fresh details have emerged following the injury of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, better known as Bobi Wine, who is currently undergoing treatment at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya. All roads heading to Nsambya Hospital have been heavily deployed by security forces. This follows the incident, which occurred in Bulindo, Kira Municipality, has sparked widespread controversy and varying accounts from involved parties.

Yesterday, Bobi Wine was reportedly shot in the left leg during a police intervention as he left a thanksgiving event organized by lawyer George Musisi. Uganda Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke stated, “Police officers on site claim he stumbled while getting into his vehicle, causing the injury,” adding that the police will thoroughly investigate the incident to determine the facts.
However, new reports suggest that the injury was not an accidental stumble, but rather the result of a deliberate act of violence. Joel Ssenyonyi, the spokesperson for the National Unity Platform (NUP), contradicted the police’s account, asserting, “Bobi Wine was shot in the left leg by police forces. He has undergone surgery, and despite being in pain, he has been sedated for treatment.”

Musician Ssemanda Mansul commonly known as King Saha together with the Member of Parliament Kawempe North Muhammad Ssegirinya have today morning paid a visit to Bobi Wine in the hospital.
As Bobi Wine continues to recover, his team has escalated the issue, calling for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the injury. “We cannot allow this to be swept under the rug,” Ssenyonyi emphasized. “The truth must come out, and those responsible must be held accountable.”
In response to these developments, several human rights organizations and political observers have raised concerns about the increasing use of force against opposition figures in Uganda. The incident has reignited debates over political freedom and police brutality in the country.
The police have reiterated their commitment to conducting a thorough investigation, but the conflicting narratives have already set the stage for a tense and potentially prolonged dispute over the true events of that day. As the situation unfolds, all eyes remain on the ongoing investigation and the official statements expected in the coming days.
