Over 1.9million posts await to be applied for during the 2025/2026 General elections. On Tuesday July 30, 2024 Justice Simon Byabakama, chairperson Electoral Commission (EC) announced the EC roadmap for 2026 polls during EC’s national workshop for stake holder at Hotel Africana in Kampala.

The road map indicates that the reorganization of the polling stations are to set off this month of August 2024 and the nomination process to commence with village Special Interest Groups Committee on June 2 to end 10, 2025 while Local Government Council will start on September 3 to end on 12 and Parliamentary candidates will start September 16 to end 17, 2025. The Presidential candidates nominations will start on October 2 to end on 3, 2025.

The polling for the Presidential, General Parliamentary and Local Government Councils for the general elections will be between January 12 and February 9, 2026.

The campaigns are set to start by the second week of October 2025 and the updated national voter’s register will be ready by the end of May 2025 as the EC Director of Operations Richard Kamugisha stated.

The current term of office for all the elected leaders will expire on May 12, 2026, and the Public Servants to stand for Local Government elections must resign by August 2, 2025, Parliamentary candidates by June 13, 2025, while those for Presidential candidate by October 1, 2025.

The EC revealed that the polling stations are projected to increase from 34,684 in 2021 polls to 42,000, elective offices from 118,945 to 140,043. Regions to increase from 12 to 15 and district/cities from 146 to 155, counties from 312 to 390, constituencies from 353 to 390, city divisions from 25 to 33, sub-counties/towns/municipalities from 2,211 to3,100,parishes from 10,690 to 14,000 and villages/cells from 70,512 to 80,000.

EC also projected the increase of registered voters to be 24million compared to the number of the last general elections which was slightly over 18million.
