As Buganda still celebrates the return of Kabaka that happened on July 22, 2024, kingdom authorities have organized a thanksgiving ceremony to commemorate the 31st coronation anniversary of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II at St Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe today Wednesday July 31, 2024.
In the telecasted video of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, he thanked the medical personnel for the treatment he has acquired and still receiving, assured Buganda that his health is improving and due to doctors directive he couldn’t appear to the public for the celebrations.
He mentioned that in his absence he has been closely following all the happenings in the kingdom. He has appealed to Buganda to preserve their culture, norms and traditions upholding respect for each other to avoid the sabotaging enemy. He mentioned that many have misled the populace with false information about the kingdom therefore warned Buganda to be careful about such propagandists.

He stated the coronation protocol of the throne which is not appointed through nomination by senior clan chiefs. He has added that his leadership while he reigns is assisted by the Katikiiro who is chosen by the Kabaka himself.
He applauded the Buganda especially the youths in the diaspora for the love and respect for the kingdom and urged them to continually love Buganda and maintain the relationship with respect towards Buganda.
Bishop Moses Banja, who was the preacher for the thanks giving has thanked the Namibian government for allowing kabaka to be treated at Okonguari Psychotherapeutic center and also applauded the medical persons who took care of kabaka.
He urged Buganda to copy the example of Kabaka on unity and love for every individual regardless of their stature relating to his initiatives such as combats of HIV/AIDS, sick cell and agricultural initiatives that has attracted development in Buganda as a whole and be strong as a culture institute. ‘Unity is the stronghold of the kingdom, let us be one as we uphold Buganda.’ He stated
Bishop Banja has condemned those that have misused internet and social media platforms violating Kabaka as well as the kingdom and expressed pity to those spreading false information about Buganda kingdom. He called upon all those that are guilty to seek forgiveness and change.
Minister of Kampala City and Metropolitan affairs, Minsa Kabanda, in her address as she represented the Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja has called upon the populace to continue praying for Kabaka instead of spreading propaganda. She urged unity and oneness among Buganda, and promised to visit Katikiiro to forward her message to the Kabaka.
Katikiiro Charles Peter Mayiga has declined the ongoing rumors about Kabaka assuring the Buganda that he is alive and he is in his palace. He has emphasized togetherness among Buganda so as to fight those that promote division with in Buganda.
He has congratulated Kabaka on reaching 31st coronation anniversary while still reigning and prayed for him God’s protection and more strength as he reigns. The celebrations have been attended by many delegates from the parliament, religious bodies and well-wishers of Buganda.
Buganda’s 36th king ascended to the throne on July 31 1993, 27 years after kingdoms had been banned by former Ugandan president Milton Obote. Previous coronation anniversaries have mostly been held in Buddo, a place in wakiso district famed for ancient Buganda cultural leaders.
