Nomination of candidates to run in the byelections for the seats of Member of Parliament in Bukimbiri County and Gogonyo County, respectively, has started.
The nominations will take place at the offices of the returning officers in the aforementioned districts today and tomorrow beginning at 9am and ending at 5pm, according to a statement from acting EC spokesperson Paul Bukenya.
“We are beginning to nominate candidates for the byelection for the positions of Member of Parliament for Bukimbiri County in the Kisoro district and Gogonyo County in the Pallisa district.

The exercise officially begins today, Monday, August 1, 2022,” he declared.
He stated that all requirements for nomination as a Member of Parliament must be met by the potential candidates.
The exercise will be over by Tuesday, August 2, 2022, he added, adding that nomination papers had already been distributed to potential candidates.
According to Bukenya, the nominated candidates will hold campaign meetings for seven days, starting on Wednesday, August 3, and ending on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.
The by-election voting day and results counting will take place on Thursday, August 11, 2022, according to the EC
“We urge all relevant parties in those districts to adhere to this program and the rules we have established for these
operations,” he said.
New elections were called for both Bukimbiri and Gogonyo after the Court of Appeal disqualified two lawmakers who supported the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in June of this year.
Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu from Bukimbiri County represents the Kisoro district, and Derrick Orone from Gogonyo County represents the Pallisa area.
