Heavy rains accompained with hailstorm on Wednesday afternoon destroyed crops and houses in Rubuguri subcounty, Kisoro district.

A total of 445 people from 65 households in the villages of Rushaga, Higabiro and Kasheija have been affected.

The affected residents are now in fear that if this continues they won’t be able to harvest anything from their gardens this season.

Prim Rose Natukunda, the Uganda Redcross branch manager for Kisoro has expressed fear that families already affected by the effects of the COVID19 situation in the country are likely to suffer double tragedy of famine and hunger amidst the tough times of the COVID19 pandemic.

Through their food security programming, the Redcross says they are considering giving out seeds to the affected families to plant in the next season.
