Agnes Namaganda one of the aspiring candidates for the woman Member of Parliament for Kampala on the National Unity Platform (NUP) has revealed that she is living in fear after receiving death threats from her husband for joining the opposition party.
Namaganda says her husband Dick Twinomujuni who is a National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporter and works with the ministry of finance has been harrassing her ever since she joined people power/NUP.
“For the ten years we have been married, he knows my heart has been oposition. I would vote FDC and he votes NRM and things were normal until i decided to join active politics and joined people power/NUP since then we have been having disagreements” said Namaganda
She told a news conference yesterday that due to continuous disagreements, she decided to abandon her marital home in Nalumunye leaving behind her four children.
Namaganda says her husband who posseses a fire arm is now threatening to end her life once she doesn’t reverse her decision.
She says she reported a threatening violance case to Nalumunye police station in January this year on reference number SD/REF 11/11/09/2020.
“In January when I reported this case he wanted me to forget about people power which I can not do because I can not look at what is happening in my country and I keep a deaf ear especially when I know that I’m with in the means of my constitutional freedoms. I have a freedom whether am married to belong to a political party of my choice” narrated Namaganda
“When I reported to police, he seemed to have calmed down a bit however when things became worse, I decided to find a place and leave with my children but before I implemented that COVID came, we were under lockdown. Following continuous threats, I decided to run out of my home last Wednesday” she added
However when contacted by smlnews.ug, the accused Twinomujuni refuted allegations of threatening to kill his wife.
He admitted that his woman moved out of the home after putting in place rules that made her choose to leave foristance banning NUP compaign teams or materials to be kept at their home since he is a civil servant.
