The Electoral Comission(EC) has commenced issuing nomination forms and nomination guidelines for the 2021 presidential elections today.
Paul Bukenya the EC’s Media and Public relations manager says a total of 10 aspiring presidential candidates collected the documents from the EC headquarters in Kampala on the first day.
These include Daniel Matsiko (independent), Charles Bbale (Ecological Party), Christopher Rugaba (Independent), Fred Mwesigye (Independent) and Maj (rtd) Joseph Mwambazi (independent).
The others are Harold Nuwasiima, Eric Kitsa Bunnet, John Katumba, Joshua Isingoma Mugisa and Bob Akileng all independents.
Bukenya says the aspirants also collected supporter forms, which will be used to collect signatures indicating the support of not less than 100 voters in each of at least two thirds of all the districts of Uganda.
More than 40 individuals expressed interest to vie for Uganda’s presidency in next year’s general elections.
Among those who communicated their intentions to stand for the country’s top seat include Kyadondo East MP and National Unity Platform president Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobwine and the incumbent President Yoweri K Museveni.
The others are Former security minister Lt. Gen Henry Tumukunde (independent), Gen Mugisha Muntu (Alliance For National Transformation) Joseph Kabuleta (independent)and Charles Rwomushana(independent) among others.
According to the EC’s revised road map for the 2020/2021 general elections, nomination of candidates for presidential elections will happen between 2nd-3rd November 2020.
