As media houses struggle to position their brands and cash in on the huge expenditures expected to characterize the 2021 political season, new ones are fighting hard to snatch viewership from the traditional giants.
TV stations have been signing up new talent to bolster their popularity.
The latest such signing is Baba TV’s Noorden Ntege who has left Bukedde TV for Baba TV to work as the Station Manager.
Ntege whose TV career is a decade old was unveiled to Babatv staff on Monday, August 3, 2020 by the company’s Managing Director Moses Grace Balyeku.
Noorden is also set to host Baba TV’s “Fumintiriza” show that airs mondays and “Kibuyaga Mukibuga” which airs every Wednesday replacing veteran journalist Abbey Ssewakiryanga aka Basajjamivule Bbwaddene Nsolonkambwe who was temporarily suspended following his arrest and detention at Kibuli CIID headquarters.
SML’s Ritah Ainembabazi spoke to Noorden Ntege and below is the full interview
Ritah: Congratulations upon your new signing
Noorden: Thank you
Ritah: Take me through your Media Journey. I only know you as former “Akabinkano” show host on Bukedde TV. What is your media work experience?
Noorden: My TV journey started 11 years ago from Bukedde TV. I joined the station when I was fresh from school. I now have experience in TV presentation, producing, directing, working in the control room, using the camera among other things. While still at the station I was privillaged to attend some of the high level managerial meetings where I contributed ideas for the development of the station.
Ritah: What should Baba TV expect from you?
Noorden: Only the best. Because when you leave a good place for a better one you are expected to do your best.
Ritah: TV business is competitive nowadays, how do you intend to make Baba TV stand out?
Noorden: I’m going to work hand in hand with the entire team to see that our programming improves to be able to attract more viewers. You know Ugandans want the best and that’s what we shall offer. Baba TV targets ordinary Ugandans and so we shall design content that best suits them.
Ritah: People know Baba TV as a Lusoga TV station but we are now seeing some programs being done in Luganda and others in English. Are you changing the focus?
Noorden: Every business venture starts small. Initially our target audience was Basoga but after satisfying their needs in terms of TV programs we are now looking at capturing more viewers by bringing other regions on board.
Ritah: Does this mean that you are shifting the TV station from Jinja to the Capital Kampala?
Noorden. No we are still in Jinja because that’s where our main target audience is. We are the official Busoga kingdom TV. But we have always had other studios and offices in Ntinda – Kampala.
Ritah: Any last word(s) to Baba TV Viewers?
Noorden: All our lovely viewers must know that they are about to have the best TV experience with Baba TV.
