Korea-Uganda Relations on Course – Park, Oryem say

Uganda will next year 2023 mark 60 years of diplomatic cooperation with the Republic of Korea with renewed momentum.

With growth in mutual trust and understanding between the two nations, Korea in September made a fourth straight donation of 6000 tonnes of Rice force refugees in Uganda. Korea in broad terms continues to support Uganda’s refugee policy.

Korea’s Ambassador to Uganda Park Sung – soo says Uganda is politically stable,economically active,socially young and mentally stable to spur trade and investment as an economic hub in East Africa.

Uganda is among the key nations expected to take part in first ever Korea – Africa summit in 2024.

Koreans in Uganda on October 5 marked their National Foundation Day that coincided with their Armed Forces Day.

At the celebrations held at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, Uganda’s foreign affairs State Minister, Henry Okello Oryem, highlighted the role of armed forces in nation building. He said countries ought to harness the victories of armed forces to foster development based on peace.

Korea has also contributed USD 6 million to Uganda’s COVID – 19 recovery efforts and continues to support agricultural development. Her support is in value addition, improved farming practices and research in better crop yields.

Under the ODA cooperation that begun in 2010, Korea has been supporting  KOICA under UNDP and UNHCR.

The economic empowerment for women in refugee camps and reception centres is equally being funded.

Uganda is among the key nations expected to take part in first ever Korea – Africa summit in 2024. This is expected to open a new chapter in the broader Korea – Africa relations.
