NIRA Blocks Youth MP Aspirant Nakku Fiona’s Attempt to Alter Age on National ID

The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has turned down a request by National Female Youth MP aspirant Nakku Fiona to change her date of birth on her national identity card — a move perceived as an effort to meet the constitutional age limit for youth representatives in Parliament.

According to electoral guidelines, candidates for the National Female Youth MP position must be 30 years old or younger at the time of nomination. However, official documentation shows that Nakku Fiona is older than the required age.

Sources within NIRA revealed that Nakku made the request to amend her date of birth shortly after realizing her current age would disqualify her from the race.

After conducting a thorough review of her birth records and identification documents, NIRA found that the information on file was accurate and matched all available records. Her request was therefore rejected.

“NIRA does not alter official identity details without valid legal grounds,” a senior official said.

“The investigation showed a clear attempt to manipulate the system to gain eligibility.”

The incident has triggered public concern, with some calling for tighter scrutiny of political aspirants. Legal experts warn that if the alteration had been approved, it could have constituted fraud.

With the nomination deadline fast approaching, Nakku Fiona’s chances of qualifying appear slim unless she pursues a successful legal appeal. The Electoral Commission is set to release the final list of eligible candidates later this week.

The situation has reignited discussions about the integrity of the electoral process and the importance of ensuring that youth positions are genuinely reserved for eligible candidates.
