With less than 72 hours to the end of the financial year, the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) is sending out a strong reminder to all taxpayers: file your returns and pay your taxes now or face penalties. The tax authority has launched an urgent call to action, encouraging individuals and businesses to visit their website at ura.go.ug/en and fulfill their tax responsibilities before time runs out.
The campaign, which features hashtags like #TokolaError and #URATickTock, highlights the risks of waiting until the last minute. URA warns that missing the June 30 deadline could lead to serious consequences such as fines, interest charges, and legal action.
Every financial year, all registered taxpayers are required to file their income tax returns and clear any outstanding tax obligations. This process not only keeps businesses and individuals compliant with the law but also helps the country raise the money needed for public services like roads, hospitals, and education.
For those who haven’t started the process, URA says there is still time to avoid trouble. The entire process can be done online, and the tax body has made resources available to help taxpayers understand what they need to do.
“This is your final call,” one URA officer said. “Don’t wait until the last hour. Visit our website, file your returns, and pay your tax. Avoid penalties and interest that come with non-compliance.”
The URA has been running several public awareness campaigns in recent weeks, using social media, radio, and community outreaches to inform people about the importance of tax compliance. The message is simple: act now, stay compliant, and avoid unnecessary costs.
As the clock continues to tick, taxpayers across Uganda are being urged to take action and complete their tax duties before the financial year officially closes on June 30.
