Uganda is grieving the loss of Rajiv Ruparelia, the Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group, who died in a car accident early Saturday, 3rd May 2025. He was 35 years old.
Andrew Mwenda, a well-known journalist and friend of the family, shared what happened. He said Rajiv had just come back from London to attend the wedding of Jonathan Buteera, the son of former Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera. Rajiv was on his way to Munyonyo to join the wedding convoy when the crash happened.
Mwenda said Rajiv was driving from Kajjansi to Munyonyo when he hit a road barrier near the Busabala Flyover.
“He had just returned and may not have known about the new barriers,” Mwenda explained. He said the car flipped, flew into the air, and caught fire after landing.
Rajiv was driving a Nissan GTR. The fire destroyed the car, and sadly, Rajiv died on the spot. “There was no chance for him to escape,” Mwenda said.
The police confirmed the accident and are still investigating. Early reports say he may have lost control after hitting temporary concrete barriers at the Busabala Flyover in Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso District.
Rajiv was known for his role in business, sports, and helping the community. He played an important part in growing the Ruparelia Group.
He leaves behind his wife, Naiya, and their daughter. Many people are paying tribute to him and remembering his work and generosity.
