The Uganda Police Force has heightened security measures across the country following credible terror alerts from international intelligence agencies.
The US Embassy alerts issued yesterday highlighted a potential terrorist attack planned against crowded areas.
While addressing the press this afternoon at the Police Headquarters in Naguru, Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusooke assured Ugandans that police is on the lookout for any suspicious individuals and activities calling for cooperation from the public.
“While the threat is real, our security forces are working hard to neutralize it. We are relying on the cooperation of the public to bolster our efforts. Everyone has a role to play in ensuring safety. If you notice anything unusual, please report it immediately to local authorities.” Rusoke argued the public.
Police has increased surveillance, intelligence gathering, and police patrols in public places, including shopping malls, hotels, and places of worship.
“We have also deployed specialized units, including the Counter-Terrorism Unit and the Rapid Response Unit, to key locations”. Rusoke added.
The terror alerts come amidst a heightened global threat from extremists’ groups, and Uganda’s proximity to volatile regions raises concerns about the country’s vulnerability.
Police is working closely with international partners to ensure safety and security of all citizen’s and visitors.
