A former soldier of the Uganda People\u2019s Defence Forces (UPDF), Daniel Kisekka, has admitted in court that he was involved in the killing of prosecutor Joan Kagezi. Kisekka confessed that he and a group of others were paid $20,000 to carry out the assassination.<\/p>\n
Kisekka had deserted the army in Gulu after stealing two AK-47 rifles. After leaving the army, he joined three other men\u2014Kibuuka John, Nasur Abdallah Mugonole, and Masajjage\u2014in committing a series of armed robberies. Later, they were hired to kill Joan Kagezi. According to Kisekka, the order came from a powerful and well-known person who was angry about Kagezi’s involvement in important legal cases that were related to the Muslim community.<\/p>\n
Joan Kagezi was a respected court prosecutor. Her murder shocked many Ugandans. The public demanded justice and called on the government to arrest and prosecute those responsible. The court case has received a lot of public attention.<\/p>\n
