A woman driving a Subaru Legacy car with the number plate UBQ 900J crashed into the same concrete barriers that caused the death of well-known businessman and rally driver Rajiv Ruparelia earlier this month. This accident has brought back strong public anger about the government\u2019s failure to fix dangerous roads.<\/p>\n
The new accident happened on Saturday night at the Busabala Flyover in Makindye-Ssabagabo, in Wakiso District. This place is now known as a dangerous blackspot for drivers.<\/p>\n
Eyewitnesses said the woman hit the same concrete barriers that caused Rajiv\u2019s fatal crash.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis accident happened at the same place where Rajiv died,\u201d said one eyewitness who quickly ran to help. \u201cWhy isn\u2019t the government doing anything about this?\u201d<\/p>\n
Emergency workers and first responders rushed to the scene and were seen trying hard to pull the woman out of the badly damaged car. Her condition was not known by the time of writing this article. However, people who saw the crash said the impact was very serious.<\/p>\n
This accident has once again raised big questions about how serious the government is about road safety. Many people are upset and believe that the government is not doing enough to prevent accidents.<\/p>\n
Some say that after Rajiv\u2019s death, officials should have taken action to make the road safer. But nothing has changed.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe same concrete blocks are still there. There are no warning signs, no reflectors, and no lights. They haven\u2019t tried to fix anything since Rajiv died. How many more people have to die before they act?\u201d said a frustrated motorcycle taxi rider (Boda Boda) who spoke to reporters.<\/p>\n
Photos from the scene show the wrecked car in nearly the exact same spot where Rajiv died less than a month ago.<\/p>\n
In fact, several accidents have happened at this same location over the years, even before Rajiv\u2019s crash on May 3rd. Many drivers have complained about poor visibility, no clear road signs, and lack of street lights. These problems make it hard to see and avoid obstacles on the road.<\/p>\n
So far, the Ministry of Works and Transport has not made any statement about the recent crash.<\/p>\n
Road safety groups are now calling for urgent action. They want the government to investigate the crash and take steps to prevent more accidents. Some of the changes they are asking for include removing or changing the design of the dangerous barriers, adding more street lights, and painting clear road markings.<\/p>\n
Uganda has seen a very high number of deadly road accidents this year. Over 5,100 people have died in road crashes in 2024 alone.
