The Uganda Peoples\u2019 Defence Forces (UPDF) has made important leadership changes. Brigadier General Fred Mwesigye has been appointed as the new Deputy Commander of the 1 Infantry Division. This change was officially announced on May 17, 2025.<\/p>\n
Brig Gen Mwesigye replaces Colonel Wingston Mugarura, who had been serving in that role. At the same time, Brig Gen Mwesigye handed over his former position as Commander of Tokoora 1 Brigade to Lieutenant Colonel Jemba Ssejemba.<\/p>\n

Colonel Mugarura, who stepped down as Deputy Commander, expressed deep appreciation for the support he received during his time in the role. He especially thanked Maj Gen Mugerwa, calling him a “memorable commander” who greatly helped shape his military career.<\/p>\n
