Former spokesperson for the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Charles Twine, is reportedly being held by the Special Forces Command (SFC), although the reasons behind his detention remain unknown. <\/p>\n
According to reliable sources, Twine was called in on Tuesday night to meet with Uganda\u2019s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abas Byakagaba, and his deputy, James Ochaya. It is still unclear why he was summoned or what matters needed the attention of the police\u2019s top leaders.<\/p>\n
Twine had been working as a CID officer attached to Parliament for the past three years. On Tuesday night, he traveled to prepare for the meeting scheduled for Wednesday morning. By 7:30 a.m. the next day, he was seen at the Naguru Police Headquarters. Sources confirmed that he met with IGP Byakagaba and Deputy Ochaya, but after the meeting, things took an unexpected turn.<\/p>\n
Without explanation, Twine was reportedly handed over to SFC soldiers who had been waiting in a vehicle parked within the police premises. His car is still at Naguru, and attempts to reach him by phone have failed since his known contacts have gone off. His colleagues say the SFC soldiers drove him away to an unknown location, and no one knows where he is at the moment.<\/p>\n
When Uganda Radio Network tried to get answers, the acting spokesperson of the Uganda People\u2019s Defence Forces (UPDF), Col. Chris Magezi, referred them to Major Jimmy Omara, the spokesperson for the SFC. Maj. Omara stated that he did not have any information about Twine\u2019s arrest but promised to look into it and provide more details when available.<\/p>\n
The SFC is an elite military group responsible for protecting the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, his family, and other key government assets. However, the SFC has recently faced accusations of involvement in abductions, particularly targeting members of the opposition political party, the National Unity Platform (NUP).<\/p>\n
One of the most recent cases involved Eddie Mutwe, the bodyguard of NUP President Bobi Wine. He was reportedly abducted by the SFC and held incommunicado for several days.<\/p>\n
Charles Twine previously served as the CID spokesperson when Grace Akullo was in charge of the department. However, after Maj. Tom Magambo replaced Akullo, Twine was transferred from CID.
