He claims the bank forced him to repay the UGX 226 million loan for a condominium in Naalya within two and a half years, instead of the agreed 13 years.<\/p>\n<p>Ssemugenyi, who operates several diaspora accounts with DFCU Bank, says the bank froze his accounts after he cleared the loan and began debiting funds without his consent. He alleges that bank officials demanded bribes to release his funds and titles, threatening to report him to the Financial Intelligence Authority as a suspected money launderer. &#8220;My only crime is sending money from my Canadian accounts to Uganda,&#8221; he said, accusing the bank of unjustly labeling him.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8805\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8805\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8805 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/smlnews.ug\/Luganda\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/images-6-4-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"DFCU Bank\u2019s Head of Corporate Affairs, Helena Mayanja\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/smlnews.ug\/Luganda\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/images-6-4-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/smlnews.ug\/Luganda\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/images-6-4-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/smlnews.ug\/Luganda\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/images-6-4.jpg 554w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8805\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em><strong>DFCU Bank\u2019s Head of Corporate Affairs, Helena Mayanja<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In response, DFCU Bank\u2019s Head of Corporate Affairs, Helena Mayanja, acknowledged the loan repayment but denied any misconduct. \u201cWe would like to clarify that while the client ultimately settled his loan, it is not accurate to state that he was required to do so within two and a half years,\u201d she said, adding that the bank had only recently received a formal request for the release of the property titles.<\/p>\n<p>However, Ssemugenyi disputes this claim. \u201cAll these are lies. I have executed formal requests multiple times,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cThe bank has written to me, terminating our relationship, yet they still hold my property titles. Why should they hold onto my titles if they no longer wish to do business with me?
