Police in Mayuge District have launched an investigation into the cause of a fire that ravaged the dormitory of Shalom Junior School in Wakalende Village, leaving hundreds of pupils in shock. Preliminary reports suggest that the blaze, which erupted in the early hours of Sunday, was triggered by an electrical short circuit.<\/p>\n

The fire spread rapidly, fueled by flammable materials like mattresses and books, destroying the belongings of Primary Seven pupils, including crucial study materials. With final exams just a month away, the incident has severely disrupted their preparations.<\/p>\n

One affected pupil expressed deep concern, saying, “How will we study for our exams now? All our books are gone.”<\/p>\n

Fortunately, no lives were lost in the inferno, but the damage has been extensive. Firefighters from Iganga Police Station arrived swiftly but were unable to save the dormitory and its contents.<\/p>\n

Doreen Rachael, a teacher at the school, sought to reassure the pupils, pledging that the school would find alternative solutions to ensure their studies were not interrupted. “We will find ways to address the access to study materials,” she said.<\/p>\n

As the police investigation continues, questions have arisen about the school’s electrical safety standards and emergency preparedness. The administration has appealed for external support to help rebuild the dormitory and replace the lost items.<\/p>\n
