On the third day of the Uganda Security Expo’s inaugural phase, North Kigezi Bishop Rt. Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe expressed his gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni for transforming the country’s army into a disciplined force that prioritizes the safety and well-being of citizens.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the Late Aronda Memorial Lecture in Munyonyo, Bishop Asiimwe contrasted the current military with its past reputation for causing fear and kidnapping citizens. He praised President Museveni for his efforts in reforming the army, saying that the transformation has been remarkable.<\/p>\n

“In the past, the army was feared by many Ugandans, who saw it as a force that caused more harm than good,” Bishop Asiimwe said. “However, under President Museveni’s leadership, the army has undergone a significant transformation, becoming a disciplined force that prioritizes the safety and well-being of citizens.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Bishop Asiimwe’s remarks were made during a lecture in honor of the late General Aronda Nyakairima, who served as Uganda’s Chief of Defense Forces until his death in 2015. The lecture is part of the Uganda Security Expo, which aims to showcase the country’s security capabilities and promote regional cooperation.<\/p>\n

President Museveni, who was the chief guest at the event, highlighted the various reforms his government has implemented to transform the army into a modern and professional force.<\/p>\n
