Two people have been confirmed dead after River Nyamwamba once again burst it’s banks at Kahonda, Kasese Municipality.<\/p>\n
A heavy down pour in Kasese last evening led to River Nyamwamba to raise above it’s usual levels, finally bursting it’s banks and diverting from it’s usual course at Kahonda, four kilometers away from Kases before flooding the area.<\/p>\n
The incident left houses in Nyamwamba Sub-division submerged, with the waters destroying property and displacing local people from their homes. The most affected areas include Nyakibingo, Kalembe and Nsanga in Nyamwamba division.<\/p>\n
“As police in Kasese we continue to monitor this crisis because we expect more rains to come” Nelson Tumushabe, Rwenzori Regional Police Spokesperson, said.<\/p>\n
Hundreds of homesteads in the area have been displaced by the floods and have sought refugee from their relatives.<\/p>\n
Local authorities have appealed to the Office of the Prime Minister to intervene in the situation.<\/p>\n
“The situation is still tense because the rains have just started. We are asking the Office of the Prime Minister to help in evacuating people in prone areas”. The RDC Kasese, Lt. Joe Walusimbi, appealed.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile people staying in prone areas have been advised to relocate to safer areas in order to avoid further damage.<\/p>\n
Every year at the start of the rainy season, River Nyamwamba bursts its banks causing flooding in Kasese town. A similar incident happened in May this year but did not claim any life.<\/p>\n
Else where, several people have been injured at Abela Village, Get on Sub county along Soroti-Moroto highway after a Full lorry carrying over sixty women and three men coming back after Women Conference in Katakwi lost control and overturned.<\/p>\n
Patients were evacuated to Katakwi General Hospital and later transferred to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital by Uganda Red Cross Society teams in Eastern Uganda.<\/p>\n
Another fatal accident occured earlier at Kitigoma Kampala Ninja highway killing three people and several injured. A Drone taxi driver ram into a trailer tail after failing to over take it.<\/p>\n
