Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday following weeks of intense anti-government protests that have left over 90 people dead. The unrest, sparked by opposition to government job quotas, culminated in protesters storming the prime minister’s residence in Dhaka.<\/p>\n
Violent clashes between demonstrators and security forces have shaken the nation, leading to the imposition of an indefinite nationwide curfew. On Sunday alone, 91 people were killed, including 13 police officers, marking the deadliest day of protests in recent history.<\/p>\n
While announceing the interim military-led government, Bangladesh\u2019s army chief Gen Waker-uz-Zaman urged protesters to remain calm, as they worked around the clock to resolve their issues.<\/p>\n
Reports of police brutality against demonstrators continue to emerge. By press time protesters around the Dhaka University and other locations were facing violent beatings and teargas among others.<\/p>\n
Hasina\u2019s resignation marks a significant turning point for Bangladesh. Tension still remains as security forces continues to urge protesters to call off demonstrations.<\/p>\n
